Social media’s “Naughty List” for 2009– Will you make it?

The holiday season is underway and we here at 451 Marketing have been talking about who has been naughty and who has been nice this year in the social media world. We recognize that even though there have been exhaustive lists put together about social media blunders (Mashable, Interactive Insights Group) no one has really put together a comprehensive list of all the naughty things we have done to each other in the social media space throughout the course of 2009.
We are looking for your help in putting this post together and we invite you to chime in with your thoughts. We promise to publish almost anything (as long as it’s somewhat clean/appropriate). This could include funny practical jokes, excessively mean blog comments, careless mishaps, rudeness, no-shows, blogger non-responsiveness, copying content without attribution, fake review writing, ANYTHING!
We invite you to also use this post to absolve yourself of something you feel guilty about doing in 2009 (Mea Culpa!). Or, feel welcome to vilify someone that you know has been naughty.
Have fun!
-Team at 451 Marketing

Ha…love it! There are certainly a lot of cases out there where someone, or some brand, was a little “naughty” in the social space, but then ultimately rectified the situation. I’m thinking of exchanges like this one between Chris Brogan and Chris Voss: http://bettween.com/chrisbrogan/chrisvoss
Chris Voss put together an eBook that included a section on “50 Ways to Use Twitter for Business”…but it just so happens that this post was originally conceived and written by Brogan, and no attribution was made. But the worse part was not that he failed to give Brogan credit for the ideas (who knows, maybe he found the post on another site without an attribution)…it was that Voss copyrighted the eBook, so conceivably, he was taking credit for Brogan’s work and could stand to potentially profit from it.
Anyway, Voss accepted responsibility for the mistake, apologized and removed the section in question. Still, an example of a highly visible mistake that was made in the social web that was met with a swift and direct response.
