Many people check their Twitter accounts constantly, which is easy thanks to smartphones and mobile apps. The micro-blogging tool has become a central source of news for many users in part because they can follow many news sources at once, receiving updates simultaneously from news outlets, friends, and even celebrities. It is hard to find a company these days that doesn’t have its own Twitter account through which loyal customers can feel connected to their favorite brands and stay up-to-date on recent developments. Twitter Announces Geo-relevance: What it Means to Marketers

Twitter’s President of Revenue recently announced some major changes to our favorite micro-blogging site. The New York Ad Age Conference was the home of the announcement that Twitter will now include a dashboard with more detailed analytics and geo-relevant ads. Twitter’s platform is moving towards being a more viable option for advertisers large and small. These tools will allow marketers to define their scope more specifically, tuning their tweets reach and allowing them to see who is paying attention to them.

Red Sox Home Opener 2011: Using a Local Event to Promote a Sense of Community

As a rookie Bostonian, it’s safe to say that I still haven’t fully grasped the intense passion that New Englanders feel towards their teams – Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins, and Celtics alike. The footprint of the home teams on the local social media scene was obvious to me on Friday when the Red Sox had their Home Opener against their arch rivals, the New York Yankees. Businesses and organizations coordinated their tweets for the day to coincide with the event.
