Places to Be This Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend, Bostonians are preparing to celebrate the official start of summer. Whether people plan on staying close to home or are looking to do a bit of traveling, this list can suit any agenda!

All Weekend:

Apple Street Farm: Under the direction of acclaimed Chef Frank McClelland, Apple Street Farm, one of the country’s most ambitious sustainable agriculture initiatives in the restaurant industry, will be hosting events all weekend long to welcome the summer season. To support the farms’ “eat local” initiative, the weekend long Seedling Sale will feature organic vegetable starts, flowers and herbs grown in the farm’s greenhouse. On Saturday, the farm will host a Family Farm Day from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. where the entire family can enjoy a cookout, bluegrass band performance, farm tour and meet the animals. Seedling sale hours: 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday- Monday (35 Apple Street, Essex, MA  www.applestreetfarm.com)

Lola’s Tequila Bar & Cantina: An ocean breeze and a festive Mexican menu is the perfect combination to welcome in the summer season. Famous for their loud and vibrant cuisine, the ambiance of Lola’s matches the menu. On Memorial Day Lola’s will be offering $4 margaritas and half priced appetizers to be enjoyed on the beautiful outdoor patio seeting or in the dining room designed by HGTV/Food Network’s Taniya Nayak. And for those who need a siesta, SleepAFloat is available on the Foxpoint Marina to provide an area to refuel for the rest of the party or have a safe night sleep. Complimentary valet is offered seven days a week before 10 p.m.  (525 South Water Street, Providence, RI 401-383-0220 www.lolascantina.com)

The Ocean Club at Marina Bay:  The third year reopening of The Ocean Club is promised to be the biggest yet, with world renowned dubstep DJ Skrillex taking the stage Friday night. The oceanfront space will continue to celebrate the rest of the weekend, with performances by Christian Arango on Saturday and Nicky Romero on Sunday. In addition to having an extensive list of scheduled performers for the entire summer, the area’s most chic and trendy outdoor entertainment complex also offers daytime fun, seaside cabanas, a VIP section and table service. Tickets for Skrillex are available at the door, and doors open at 8 p.m. (333 Victory Road, Quincy, MA 617-689-0600 www.oceanclubatmarinabay.com)

The Whiskey Republic, traditionally known for its rock star reputation, is kicking off a new summer menu which can be enjoyed through waterfront dining, daily lunch service and Sunday brunches. With beautiful outdoor patio seating, The Whiskey Republic is the ideal spot for locals and tourists to enjoy some of their favorite New England seafood dishes and fresh summertime dishes. During its “Sunday Fun Day on the Deck”, $1 Burgers can be enjoyed while guests party all day and night, and boaters are encouraged to dock for free at the pet- friendly Foxpoint Marina. For starters, the dining room will be decorated in superhero regalia with a superhero inspired soundtrack playing in the background. The wait staff will also participate in the festivities and will be wearing full superhero costumes. For those that cannot make it this Sunday, no worries, the superhero Brunch will be happening every Sunday this summer from 11 a.m. until  4 p.m. (131 Broad Street, Boston, MA 617-261- 5353 www.blueincboston.com)

Happy Memorial Day from the team at 451 Marketing!

Boston Rocks (and Rolls)!

Ok, so this post has nothing to do with social media, PR, or search marketing and everything to do with Boston pride.  I just spotted my first glimpse of the new Hubway system Beantown is rolling out.  I can’t believe this has become a reality.  Can you say…love it! For those of you not familiar with this new program, today Boston launched a bicycle share program where people will be able to rent bicycles from dozens of sidewalk stations (actual one pictured below is on Atlantic Ave by Boston Harbor Hotel).

Think Zipcar –  but for bikes.  Boston @Hubway launched this morning with an inaugural ride in City Hall Plaza with many excited Hubway members and employees riding 200 bikes around the city.  Mayor Menino was also there to celebrate in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Eric Moskowitz, did a great job explaining the program back in April on Boston.com. Here is the full story: http://bo.st/fVDFTv

What do you think of this program? Will you try Hubway?
